Today marks the beginning of a new era of the West Virginia Weather Center.
It is my hope that this small organization will grow into something great over the coming weeks and months, and while doing so, informs those in the West Virginia region of things that really matter. Weather is a force that effects everyone, regardless of who you are, what you believe, or where you come from. It is in your face and on your doorstep every morning, consciously and subconsciously impacting our lives and routines. We all deserve a local, unbiased, focused source of accurate and timely information, especially when conditions are dangerous or rapidly changing. It is for this reason that WVWC was established more than five years ago, albeit not much more than the brainchild of a 13-year-old boy.
Now, as a meteorology student at Florida State University, life has changed significantly from the days when I poked at an image of a US map taped up with symbols cut out of construction paper. Times are changing, but unlike countless other media sources, I believe the overall mission never should. WVWC is always being redesigned to fit into your busy, ever-changing life without suggesting how you should live it. No spin, no pointless stories, no clickbait. We will provide the weather and relevant local information, help you to understand the science behind what's going on, and even admit when we are not confident in a forecast, and explain why. Honesty builds trust, and trust is what this industry should be based on.
Finally, please leave comments on the new site, the blog posts, and our social media pages. Comments and critiques are valuable to improving this organization and helping WVWC to better serve those we care about. If you are interested in helping out at WVWC and/or want to learn more about what we do, please send us an email or private message on Facebook or Instagram. All support and feedback is appreciated! Thank you very much for your interest in WVWC and welcome to the next generation of local news & weather!
Sincerely,
Zack
